Why do you read Okay, Fine, Dammit?

“I read Okay, Fine, Dammit because it’s quite simply the best blog in existence. There is no better writer, there is no better story teller, there is no better blogger than Maggie. She appeals to me on more levels than most: intellectually, creatively, personally, comically, and on all those levels – wonderfully. Everyone should read her. Okay? Fine. Dammit.” — Maria, Immoral Matriarch

“For the same reason people climb Mt. Everest…because it’s exciting and it might kill you.  ”Okay, Fine, Dammit” is the quintessential life blog, filled with material that makes you laugh, cry, think and pee, although not necessarily in that order.  Maggie is an amazing writer and that comes through on every post, which is why I read it more often than I read the Bible.  Also, I don’t have a Bible but even if I did I’d still read this blog more.” — Jenny, The Bloggess

“Maggie is one of the best writers in the blogosphere. Ok, fine, dammit! is one of the most hilarious, moving, well-written blogs that I have ever had the pleasure to read. She has a strong following, a sterling reputation in the blogosphere and her blog has limitless potential. I loved it from the very first read and it just gets better and better.” — Loralee, Loralee’s Looney Tunes

“Maggie is a gifted writer, so refreshingly honest, clever and authentic. Reading her blog is like sitting on the couch with a friend, coffee in hand, while discussing our lives.” – Alli Worthington, founder of Blissfully Domestic Publishing

“Why do I read Okay Fine Dammit?  I read Maggie faithfully, fitfully, with dedication because of who she is.  I’ve never met her in person; we’ve never touched hands, but she constantly touches my heart.  In Maggie’s words, you can read the emotion, the passion, the spark that most need faces and hands and intonation to express.  Maggie words convey a subtle, untarnished purity that is scarcely found the world, let alone the internet.  Maggie brings raw talent, carefree youth, unwavering conviction and gently humility to our eyes and ears and heart with every post.  Through Maggie’s words, you can hear her authenticity, her humanity. She is a delight to read, to get to know, to share a chapter in my life with.  I consider myself charmed to have found her, to be able to peek into her life on a daily basis, to be able to share this chapter of her life with her.” — Mr. Lady, Whiskey In My Sippy Cup

“Maggie writes with heart.  Every time I come to her blog, I am surprised that her words touch me as much as they do, as well as frequently make me laugh out loud. Dammit, she’s one talented writer, despite her ‘obscene’ blog title.” — Neil Kramer, Citizen of the Month

“Why do I read Okay, Fine, Dammit? Truthfully, I haven’t been reading Okay, Fine, Dammit for that long. I saw a comment left by Maggie on another blog and was intrigued by her handle – Maggie, dammit. I clicked over, read the latest post and was immediately hooked. There’s something about the way Maggie writes – her raw honesty and her sense of humour seep through in her words and the way she looks at life and thinks about things is similar to the way I do, too. Though I’ve never met Maggie in real life, I felt an instant connection with this woman, this mother, this writer – a connection that I couldn’t ignore – when I first started reading. I read Okay, Fine, Dammit because I can relate to Maggie. I read because the writing is fantastic – raw and honest and from the heart. I read because Maggie’s writing is great food for thought. And, if we’re being honest here, I read because I’m addicted – I love me some Maggie. That’s the truth, the whole truth, and nuthin’ but the truth.” — Mamatulip

“It’s no big secret that we, each of us, individually, are alienated, isolated, cut off. I am alone. And the bridge to you is infinite. There are all kinds of ways to deal with the coldness of this fact. Deny it. Drink at it. Laugh it off. Stay busy. Surround one’s self with shallow ceaseless chatter. But every now and then you come across someone who sits and dwells with it. Someone who listens with a careful ear to the whispered contour of all our lonelinesses. Then they write. And no matter what the surface of their writing says, there’s something beneath all of it that lives and attempts to cross that infinite bridge to genuinely say “Hello”. That’s why I read Okay, Fine, Dammit.” — Black Hockey Jesus

“Maggie’s voice is like a mezzo soprano in the church choir- clear and true, pure, soaring. You have to close your eyes to listen, and when she hits her notes, the clarity of them resonates in your gut. And you think, Yes. Then you think how glad you are that she’s in your church choir and not off in some opera house. I come back to read Maggie, Dammit again and again, because Maggie is the real deal…strong, witty, brave, and often extremely funny. And great with morning coffee.” — Lindsay Maines, Rock & Roll Mama

“Maggie, Dammit is Bridget Fonda to my Jennifer Jason Leigh, in the Single White Female world that lives inside my head.  I am currently growing my hair out to look just like hers, and soon I will set into motion my evil plan to take over her life, her enormous talent and, most especially, her brilliant blog. Okay, Fine, Dammit is everything I’ve ever wanted my blog to be.  It’s a perfect blend of humor, love, drama, poetry, and true appreciation for the beauty of life.  I visit every chance I get, and I can’t wait to see what new surprise will be waiting for me when I get here. Thanks, Maggie, for inspiring me and making me think and laugh and wonder.  And also, thanks for not filing that restraining order just yet.  Because stalking you is fun.” — Bejewell, The Bean

“Maggie’s blog is a testament to all that is good about the blogging world: fresh, insightful, timely, introspective, warm, engaging, and honest. Her writing is purposeful without being preachy, lyrical without being overwrought, and charming without being cutesy. Whenever I visit, I’m with friends, and I’m honored that she keeps company with me.” — Gypsy, Strange Dark Gypsy Girl

“Okay, Fine, Damnit is a must-read for me because Maggie shares a voice that represents more than just a ‘mommyblogger,’ she speaks to the hearts of women everywhere. With honesty and sincerity, her writing is a sister’s embrace and a whisper in your ear, ‘Me too.’” —Anissa, Hope4Peyton

“Finding “Okay, Fine, Dammit?” was like finding that perfect pair of stilettos.  You find the heels, you instantaneously fall in love, and you admire them from afar every single day like a work or art.  Yeah,  “Okay, Fine, Dammit?” makes me squeal with delight.” — OHmommy, Classy Chaos

“In a medium that is supposed to be about writing, Maggie is that all too rare blend of an interesting read and an excellent writer.  Her ability to spin melodies with words is why people subscribe.  The heart that pulses off the page is why you’ll come back, day after day, cheering her on and hoping she’ll learn to see what you see in her.” — Miss Britt

“Okay. Fine. Dammit. and Maggie exist simply because even genius needs inspiration from time to time and this is the place to find it. Just reading Maggie makes me feel like a better person and she has more character in her little toe than I will ever hope to achieve. Beautifully written and thought provoking, Okay. Fine. Dammit keeps the internet from being entirely vapid.” — Betsey Booms

“I read Maggie Dammit because she tells me stories that must be heard and because she says what’s in my heart so perfectly, that most days I wonder if she’s spying on me.  Although I’ve never laid eyes on Maggie, I count her as a friend.  You can’t read her blog and not.” — Meg, Simply Nutmeg

“I don’t remember how I found Okay Fine Dammit, but I do remember that when I found it I knew instantly that I would be a regular reader and commenter. She is kind, deep, and smart as a whip. It all comes through in her blog, which really represents the full range of human experience, not just work or mothering or politics, but everything. Her recent inquiry to her readers about the 2008 presidential race, for example. I forwarded it to all my friends, many of whom are neither married nor parents. They ALL loved it and took the time to tell me so. When I open up my laptop for an evening of blog-browsing, Okay Fine Dammit is always one of my first stops.” — Nora, Whopping Cornbread

“As a blog whore, I read a lot of blogs for a few reasons.  Many of the authors promise me sexual favors, or chocolate.  Some of them are just reciprocally read because they read me.  For the most part, I rarely add a new blog to my feedreader unless they’ve shown me high levels of sycophantic love.  Or boobs. Maggie’s blog is one of the exceptions.  It’s a blog that I found somewhere, somehow, and I read her because I liked her writing and enjoy what she has to say.  And I’m really presumptuous and elitist, so that’s saying something.” — Adam, Avitable

“Okay, Fine, Dammit is a transcendent, hilarious, poignant body of work. Maggie is ribald yet soft, and her writing touches the the hardest of hearts. I have read and will read her faithfully as long as she chooses to write. Blogs like Okay, Fine, Dammit are why I blog, if simply to be in the same company as writers like Maggie.” — Christine, Fluttercrafts

“I read Maggie because she’s living life to the fullest and let’s me tag along for the ride.  Yeah, it’s bumpy.  Lots of curves and detours.  But the scenery is glorious.  She dons her tour guide hat and points out things I might miss if I’m not paying attention.  She makes me laugh.  She helps me cry.  She moves me.  And one can’t ask for much more from a friend.” – Brian, The Cheek of God

“Maggie opens her world up to us (the random unwashed and facelessmasses) so we can have a glimpse of her life. Not only is letting a perfect stranger glimpse the magic that goes on behind the curtain a tightrope walk for disaster, she has the audacity to make it a captivating journey. She has everything from the stories of kind hearts and lovable neurosis to the the adrenaline charged cliffhangers where we are all dying for her to return and explain WHAT JUST HAPPENED???? In short Maggie is more addicting that a shot of methamphetamine laced double chocolate espresso with a heroin shooter chaser. To know her is
to love her, to read her, is to be hooked.” — Houston, Tater Tots for the Masses

“Okay, Fine, Dammit is one of the first blogs that I read on a regular basis. I habitually visit Maggie because of her talent and her heart. She’s just a wonderful writer. Reading her posts is like reading the pages of a great magazine without having to pay the newsstand price. And since I am a junkie for good reading material, I will come back again and again to get my Maggie fix. Her subject matter is always relevant, often important and usually lifts my heart. It frequently makes me cry. She’s the real deal, that Maggie. I’m hooked.” — Jennifer Maselli, Blissfully Caffeinated

“I read “Okay, Fine Dammit” because Maggie’s writing can make me laugh, and make me cry-sometimes in the same post. But, most of all, every time I read one of her posts, it’s like having a conversation with one of my girlfriends and that’s the best kind of conversation there is!” — Candance, Crazy Texas Mommy

“I read this because Maggie pays me. She pays me in rapid breathlessness as I try to take in every sentence before I’ve even finished the previous one, which will most likely result in damage to my cardiovascular system, but funnily enough, it’s worth it anyway.” — Xbox4NappyRash

“I read Ok, Fine, Dammit because the author has an incredibly poetic way with the written word.  There are many blogs that I could go to, and in fact go to many blogs, but this one stands out as a class act.  Ok, Fine, Dammit has humanity, sincerity, humor, and love.  What more could I want?” — Mrs. Kitty, Kitty Concerto

Okay, Fine, Dammit is the stellar blog that inspires my own writing, ignites my introspection and has led me to two others in that daily six. Maggie’s readers are the best, most thoughtful, bunch you’ll ever meet.  And Maggie? Well, dammit, just read her stuff and you’ll understand.” — Tasses, Random Wonder

“Okay, Fine, Dammit is always the first blog I check in my reader. I look forward to Maggie’s posts more than any other daily ritual that makes life that much better; more than my morning cup of coffee,or even the Sunday Paper. Maggie never fails to make me laugh, cry, or think. Sometimes she makes me do all three within the context of one post. She inspires me to be a better writer, to pay attention to the craft of words. As long as she continues to share her gift, I will be here to selfishly gobble it up.” — Chanda, Trapped Under Something Heavy

“Because you’re funny, honest, and sincere.  Because you seem like the kind of person I could hang out with that wouldn’t look at me sideways for most anything that comes out of my mouth.  You were my first ever blog that I commented on and you’re still one of my favorites because the way you turn words is amazing.” – Captain Steve, Gnomespeak

“I read Maggie because she has the uncanny ability to reach through the bullshit and touch me.  She makes me think of things in ways that I never have before, and yet I recognize and am a part of her journey.  I see myself in her, but more refined, better spoken, more true and brutally honest.  She is a poet, though her words don’t rhyme; there is a timbre to her voice that speaks directly to me, and of me.” — Just Beth

“I just wanted to take a moment (OK so my Little Imp is happily ensconced on the floor playing with Polly Pockets that I’ll eventually tread upon and swear at! Just the same, I’ll grab the moment anyhow,) to let you know how much I enjoy your blog.  I love being able to take a peek into your life, from your harrowing adventures with a bat in your belfry – OK so it was your bedroom, but humor me anyhow, to your angst and indecision over this year’s election.  You let us in each day and with each new post I feel a kinship that speaks to me and keeps me coming back, day after day.  You are one of my few, “Must read EVERY SINGLE DAY” blogs.” — Auds, Barking Mad!

“I read OkayFineDammit because you usually manage to put whatever I’ve been thinking about lately in to more fantastic words than I. And what grown woman doesn’t say “Okay, fine, dammit!” at least once a day?” — Emerald, 800 Miles

“The time: Summer, 2008. Following a link from somewhere-or-other, I stumble upon a blog so well-written, so riveting that when I finally come to, hours later, I’m gobsmacked to realize it’s about motherhood and kids and love and heartbreak — all those things utterly foreign to guy sensibilities, y’know. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I laughed out loud when I first see the blog name (and that the laughter continued when I read the entries). And then a few days later the blog is gone. Shuttered. Without warning. Bereft, I retain the link in my blogroll but hide it from public view. And every now and then, when the approach of autumn calls to me — falling leaves, chilly temperatures, all that — when I’m feeling wistful about the passing of things once valued, I click on the dead bookmark. Imagine my delight when it returns. Even better than before. How’d she do that? Who cares? She’s back, okay? So read the thing already. Pretty fine, right? You betcha, dammit.” — John E. Simpson
